Institution
University of Tampere

Objectives

After passing the course the students will be familiar with the most common engineering alloys, understand their structure-property relationships as well as the factors affecting their selection and use in different engineering applications. They will understand the importance of material standards and thus, can combine their own material knowledge and subsequent standards while selecting metals and alloys for use. The students know the material parameters which are important in sheet metal forming and how the formability of sheet metal is tested in practice, basics how to classify and select stainless steels by their corrosion resistance, and differences in aluminium alloys.
