Objectives
Have knowledge on thermodynamic and kinetic factors controlling phase transformations in metals and alloys. Understand mechanism related to diffusional and diffusionless phase transformationsCan describe what happens in the structure and for the properties of metals during heat treatment. Can apply traditional heat treatmens in practiseWill have experience in laboratory practices and in use of CALPHAD simulation to experimental design, microstructural analysis and are able to report and present their own laboratory work.
Content
Core contentThermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformations. Diffusional phase transformations. Precipitation: mechanisms of nucleation and nucleus growth. Diffusionless phase transfomations: massive and martensitic transformations.
