Course unit code: C-10122-MSE--310
General information
- Credits
- 5 cr
- Institution
- University of Tampere
Objectives
After completing the course, students will be able to present the environmental impacts of materials at different stages of the product life cycle. They will be able to consider legislation and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in material selection and product design. They will continuously develop their skills in information retrieval, critical evaluation and the use of language models. They apply computer software, databases and other sources of information to minimise environmental impact.
Content
Core contentEnvironmental impacts of different material groups over their life cycle. Eco-auditing with Ansys Granta Edupack software. Environmentally friendly material selection. Properties and uses of renewable and natural materials. Challenges of critical materials. The circular economy from a materials perspective. The sustainability framework in materials engineering.
