Objectives
After completing the course the student knows the basic concepts and phenomena of elastic and plastic deformation of materials. The student can explain plastic deformation of crystalline materials using dislocation theory, and knows the fundamental theories behind the strengthening mechanisms of crystalline materials. In addition, the student knows elastic and plastic deformation mechanisms of non-crystalline materials and their significance to mechanical properties and behavior of these materials. The student understands the fundamentals of simple mechanical tests and can desgin simple experiments, and analyze simple test results.
