Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to have everyday conversations in Russian, use the basic terminology covered during the course, locate the information they need, and independently expand their vocabulary. Students will be able to assess and further develop their oral proficiency in Russian. Students will be familiar with basic phonetic terminology and the phonetic structure of the Russian language, have the ability to correctly pronounce Russian sounds, use the correct basic intonation and phonetically transcribe Russian words, and understand the importance of correct pronunciation for fluent verbal communication.
Content
During this course, students will practice everyday Russian and expand their vocabulary. They will develop their team working skills and deliver oral presentations in Russian. As for phonetics, students will become familiar with Russian phonology, the main phonetic laws, word stress and intonation. Students will practice phonetic transcription. The phonetic exercises will especially focus on Russian sounds that are difficult for Finnish speakers, reduced sounds and word stress.
