Objectives
The students learn to study, analyse and reflect on literary texts independently. They acquire an overview of the development of a topic across literary periods. They demonstrate analytical skills as well as theoretical awareness and can communicate their reflections effectively in an academic dialogue.
Content
In this self-study unit, students compile – in consultation with the instructor – a list of novels, plays, short stories and poems from different literary periods and genres in their primary language of study. The list is organised around a (spatially and/ or environmentally relevant) topic of the student’s choice. During the semester, students independently read and study these texts. The module is concluded with an oral exam in which students are given a number of excerpts from texts on their list and asked to analyse their formal, thematic and cultural-historical dimensions, while also creating connections to other texts. Students are also expected to reflect on their topic and texts theoretically.
