Institution
University of Tampere

Objectives

After completing the course, the student has the initial skills to carry out DSC and TGA measurements from sample preparation to curve analyses with the instruments available in the laboratory and understand the fundamentals of the measurements needed in diploma work, graduate studies and work life. The course is not enough to use the instruments alone and independently.

Content

Core contentInstrumentational features of DSC and TGA, working principles, and safety issues behind the methods and measuring techniques.Basic training with the devices and the software.Interpretation of the dynamic and isothermal curves.Applications.Complementary knowledgeKinetics software, UV-DSC, modulated DSC, TOPEMSpecial knowledgeLectures also cover the principles of calibration of DSC.

Further information

Course is suitable for postgraduate studies. Partial completions of the course must be carried out during the same implementation round.Division into laboratory groups will be done in the starting lecture.Registration required in Sisu for the course and a paper exam.
