Organic Chemistry Laboratory 1 (5cr)
Course unit code: C-10122-KEM--230
General information
- Credits
- 5 cr
- Institution
- University of Tampere
Objectives
After completing the course, the student is familiar with the most common laboratory tools in organic chemistry and their safe use. The student can perform reactions of the most important functional groups and can apply them when identifying organic compounds. The student can separate organic compounds from their mixture (organic analysis). The student can prepare organic compounds (synthesis) according to the given written instructions and is able to use physical methods (melting and boiling point and refractive index) and IR spectroscopy in product verification. The student knows how to use thin layer chromatography when monitoring progress of the reaction.
