Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to explain the importance of judicial regulation in societal decision-making and as a guiding force in the actions of governmental bodies, companies, and individuals. The student will demonstrate a familiarity with central legal concepts and structures as well as the various branches of law and their relations with each other. The student will be familiar with the central sources of law and the basic premises of solving legal problems. The student will be able to discuss the main characteristics of public, tax, and business law as well as the central concepts in these fields. The student will have the qualifications to continue their studies in all introductory law courses in the Faculty of Management and Business.

This course unit introduces and explores:the ways in which law is taught and studied at Tampere Universitythe importance of the legal system in societal decision-makinglaw as a guiding force for governmental bodies, companies, and individualsthe Finnish legal system, its structure and systematics, and the associated central conceptsthe Finnish legal system’s relations with international and EU lawthe study of law and the different ways to approach law from the perspective of sciencethe different branches of law and their relations to each otherthe basic premises of solving legal problems: sources of law and their studythe main characteristics and central concepts of business, tax, and public law.
