Objectives
The student knows the principal philosophical currents of contemporary philosophy. S/he is also aware of their cultural and social context, of their background in modern philosophy, and of their interaction. The aim is also to understand the theoretical background of contemporary systematic questions.
Content
The section gives an overview of different currents of philosophy in contemporary century, as well as of the thinkers and debates that are central to them. Contemporary philosophy is presented against the background of 19th century philosophy. The student gets a general idea e.g. of phenomenology, logical empiricism, analytical philosophy, pragmatism, existentialism, hermeneutics and deconstruction.
