Objectives
Students will have a good knowledge of one or two classic texts in the history of philosophy. He/she will be able to read, with commentary where necessary, classical texts whose style and methodology may differ considerably from contemporary philosophy. Identify the philosophical problems addressed in the text and the philosophical method used. After working with a classical text, he/she will be able to provide background and depth on a range of systematic issues addressed in other modules.
Content
Students will study the classic text either independently, using the commentary literature, by writing an essay or in a seminar group. Classics may also be examined by special arrangement.

It is recommended that you take the course, if available. The two other ways to complete the course are either a written assignment (essay) or a written exam.
