Objectives

The students know the controls, practical applications and problems of modern paper machines. The students know the measurements of pulp and paper production. The course improves the students’ professional development.

Content

MD and CD control measurements of modern fine paper machine. Quality measurements (basic weight, moisture, ash, thickness, coating weight and colour). Control variables in refining, pulp mixing, short circulation, coating, supercalendering and broke systems as well as the web defect control. Typical measurements such as consistency, freeness, loading measurements. Control of special and changing situations (grade switch, coordinated speed changes), pulp production controls and measurements.
