Objectives

The students know chipping, pulp cooking and their screening. They know how to analyse fibres, test pulp, beat, measuring pulp and the use of fillers. The students know how to make laboratory sheets and to test them. They are able to test the characteristics of paper and paperboard and to interpret the results. The students are able to work in teams and to write reports. The course strengthens the students’ professional development.

Content

Chipping and screening, pulp cooking and mass screening. Beating and testing, fibre analysis, measuring pulp and fillers, making laboratory sheets and testing them. Measurements of different paper and paper board types: basic characteristics, optic and strength characteristics, absorption characteristics, surface characteristics. Interpreting the results.
