Objectives

The students learn the physical phenomena related to construction engineering, become familiar with quantities and units and are able to solve physical problems at basic level. The students become familiar with experimental ways of gathering data and learn to make controlled measurements, report their findings and evaluate the reliability of the measurements and methods.

Content

Magnitudes and units, SI-system, measuring and measurement uncertainty, motion along a straight line, force, Newton’s laws, work, power and energy, efficiency, capillary motion, air humidity, temperature, thermal expansion, heat energy, sound. Assignments: measuring and measurement uncertainty, measuring noise, measuring light.

Literature: To be announced at the beginning of the study module. Teaching methods: lectures, demonstrations, learning discussion, collaborative learning, independent study/homework, assingments, reports and exam. Language of tuition: Finnish.
