Objectives

The target of the course is to give the basic knowledge of paper making, about different raw materials used in paper industry, classification of paper and board grades and their end uses. The student will know the global production and consumption of paper and board today and in the future. The student knows the global forest resources, how the forests are managed and common wood procurement practices.

Content

Unit processes in paper making, fiber raw material and pulping (chemical pulp, mechanical pulp and recycled pulp), other raw material for paper making, printing and writing papers, packaging material, grafical paperboards, special papers and paperboards. The global trends in production and consumption of paper and board today and in the future. Global forest resources, forestry principles and wood procurement. The students will make their own paper sheets in paper laboratory and analyse their main properties.
