Objectives

Having completed work on this module, students will - be able to communicate in Swedish in their chosen working environment - be able to interact effectively and appropriately with customers - be capable of obtaining information from various sources, and using it to solve work-related problems and to develop their professional expertise - have a realistic view of their own language skills and a positive attitude to language learning' the prerequisites for on-going autonomous development of language skills.

Content

This module is designed to provide students with communicative practice in natural and realistic work-related situations. The principal topic areas include: 1. Education, applying for a job, work: students practise presenting in-formation about themselves, their educational background, their work experience and current job. 2. Working environment and society: students practise discussing their target work environment, the range of jobs available in their chosen professional field, and the place of their professional field within society as a whole. 3. Networking and customer contacts: students practise communicating with customers in speech and writing in an effective and appropriate manner. 4. Core terminology: students learn to identify the core specialized terminology for their own professional field, to use it appropriately in communicative situations.

Prerequisites

The level of competence required to pass the matriculation exams in Swedish, or equivalent level of knowledge and skill.

Further information

Literature: Study materials to be distributed in class.
The practice activities are based on interpersonal interaction, and promote the development of communicative competence face-to-face and in writing. Audio-visual on-line learning tools are also used.
