Objective of course
Students are adept at aurally analysing and singing modal, tonal, free-tonal and atonal melodies and harmonies, as well as polyrhythmic exercises and master the use of the soprano, mezzo-soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass clefs. They have the ability to analyse music from different periods using their theoretical and conceptual knowledge. Students have the capability of applying their knowledge and skills to practice.

Course contents
Melody and harmony
dictations of free-tonal and atonal music in 1-2 parts
singing of free-tonal and atonal music in unison or in parts
reading of exercises on scores and notation for instruments in transposition
dictations of 3- to 4-part tonal and modal music
aural analysis of harmony in modulating tonal and free-tonal music
exercises in aural analysis of music
Rhythm
singing, playing and writing of polyrhytmic exercises

Teaching methods
Discussion, group work, exercises in melody, harmony and rhythm through singing, playing and aural analysis

Assessment methods
1. Written examination
Aural analysis of melody, 3-4 part music, harmony and polyrhythms
2. Oral examination
exercises in prima vista: song, clef singing, reading of polyrhythms
singing of chords
3. Assessment of participation in the study methods of the course
Any unaccepted parts of the examination is to be completed on a common examination date during the following academic year at the latest.
