Objectives

The Swedish language oral course focuses on professional language use in workplace communication situations. The aim of the course is for the student to achieve the oral proficiency in Swedish as required by the Language Decree (6.6.2003/424) and necessary for the work in their own professional field.
European Framework of Reference for Languages B1-B2 level.

Students:
- can communicate in field-specific tasks in a multidisciplinary work community in Swedish.
- can follow a discussion in Swedish and participate in the interaction.
- can develop language skills of their own professional field utilizing a variety of learning tools.
- understand the significance of communication as part of professional skills.

- Oral work life communication
- Key terminology and communication of one’s own professional field
- Developing language and communication skills in a Nordic work and study environment

Prerequisites

European Framework of Reference for Languages: proficiency level B1-B2.
There is a separate application process for the course. The student demonstrates the required language level according to the application instructions.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
- can briefly present themself (education, work experience, skills, duties) and a field-related company/product/process/service/procedure.
- can communicate in foreseeable spoken work-life situations with some support
- still communicates in a rather limited manner, and successful interaction requires effort from both parties.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
- can present themself (education, work experience, skills, duties) and a field-related company/product/process/service/procedure quite effortlessly and clearly.
- can communicate in several predictable spoken work-life situations quite fluently and actively.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
- can present themself (education, work experience, skills, duties) and a field-related company/product/process/service/procedure fluently and diversely.
- can communicate even in challenging spoken work-life situations with ease.

Further information

During the course, the student completes the number of credits for the oral Swedish component required by their degree programme. The course is intended for students who wish to accelerate their studies and who have the ability to study Swedish related to their own field both independently and collaboratively with students from other fields.

If a student uses AI tools in an allowed manner to assist with their learning tasks, they must cite the AI tools used and provide the prompts they used alongside their task responses. If a student presents AI-generated results as their own without citations, sources, and/or prompts, the teacher may reject the work or require it to be redone. The teacher has the right to ask the student if they have used AI in their learning task.
