Objectives

Goals:
After completing this course, you will be able to:
1. understand and use words, expressions and short sentences in simple everyday situations.
2. understand Japanese basic sentence structures and construct short simple sentences.
3. read and write hiragana letters.
4. be familiar with Japanese basic culture and way of life.

Content

Contents:
- pronunciation practice
- introduction and practice of basic grammar
- vocabulary building
- learning expressions used in daily situations: greeting, introduction, time-telling, shopping, talking about everyday activities etc.
- getting to know Japanese culture and way of life

Prerequisites

Previous study experience: No previous knowledge of Japanese is required.

Genki I (second edition)

Exams: hiragana tests and final exam
80% of attendance is required to pass the course.
Evaluation will be made based on the assessment of students’ language skill, active participation, classroom work, homework completion, and exams.
