Objectives

The target of the course is to give the basic knowledge of forest bio-products, different raw materials used in paper industry, classification of paper and board grades and their end uses. The student knows the global production and consumption of paper and board today and in the future.
The target is to give the students advice and guidelines about teamwork, studying in Finland, Finnish traditions and events, food culture and table manners in Europe and in Finland.The student gets confidence in presentation and in business communication in English.

Content

Fiber raw materials and different pulps, other raw materials for paper making.
Global forest resources, forestry principles and wood procurement.

University guidelines, discipline, self management, resposibility, plagiation
Food traditions and table manners.
Dress codes in main events
Social behaviour and health care
Team work and negotiation skills
Presentation skills

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Approved performance: 100% participation in lectures required. Absence has to be compensated by a written report of the topic that is missed.
For the approved performance, the student needs to return all reports required by the given dead line.
The student needs to show good team work skills and understanding the target of each topic in the course content by active participation during each lesson.

Rejected performance: the student does not participate in lectures and does not compensate the absence with a report. The student is mostly passiv during lessons and/or does not returm reports required by a given dead line.
