Objectives

The student
- is able to gather equipment needed for the patient’s care and is able to check their operation and safety for use
- is able to carry out patient’s medication, including medication calculation
- is able to carry out aseptic actions in patient care
- is able to maintain the continuity of care through oral reports as well as using manual and electronic documentation

Content

- the main areas of anesthetic care planning, based on theoretical knowledge
- identifying the equipment and devices needed to care for the patient and checking the functionality and safety of the equipment
- surgical patient’s medication including medication calculation
- aseptic activity in patient care
- continuity of nursing care using manual and electronic documentation

Prerequisites

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include the theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. The requred area is Perioperative Nursing.

Pass
The student
- is able to plan and implement an anaesthetised patient’s nursing care safely
- works professionally and ethically

Fail
The student puts patient safety at risk
