Objectives

The student
is able to observe, evaluate, and support the basic vital functions of critically ill or injured patients in the emergency clinic, high dependency unit or intensive care unit
- is able to care for critically ill or injured patients in the emergency room, high dependency unit or intensive care unit
- is able to work in a multidisciplinary team

Content

- main binding and plaster techniques, observation and care of a patient with a plaster
- observation and care of the intensive care patient on a ventilator
- leadership, decision making and communication reagrding a resuscitation
- patient-safe multidisciplinary work

Prerequisites

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include the theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. Required courses are Medical Nursing and Surgical Nursing

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass
The student
- is able to monitor and evaluate the basic vital functions of a critically ill or injured patient
- knows the key techniques of binding and plaster techniques and understands the importance of observation and guidance of the patient
- is able to care for a patient on a ventilator
- is able to act as a leader and a group member in a resuscitation
- is able to act as a member of a multidisciplinary group

Fail
The student puts patient safety at risk
