Objectives
The student is able to
- know the general theory of haematopoiesis and the clinical significance of different cell lines
- describe the role of the BLS in bone marrow sampling, sample preparation and handling
- know basic haematological methods and can apply them using analysers and manual techniques
- know pre-analytical factors and quality assessment criteria for the examinations
- identify key morphological findings and distinguish between normal and pathological findings
Content
Theory of haematopoiesis and its clinical significance
Basic haematological examinations, pre-analytical factors and quality assurance
Preparation and staining of blood smears
Preparation of bone morrow samples
Microscopy of normal blood cells, manual and automated cell counting
