Objectives

Student
-knows the basics of radioactivity used in professional studies
-knows the structure and operating principles of equipment used in nuclear medicine procedures
-knows the principles of working safely in Nuclear Medicine Procedures
-knows how patients can be examined and treated by using radiopharmaceuticals
-knows how the methods of nuclear medicine are utilized in the diagnosis, evaluation and follow up

Prerequisites

-adequate knowledge in radiation physics and radiation safety

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

-is able to identify and name the basics of physics required for safe medical use of radiation
-is able to identify and name the most important concepts related to nuclear medicine examinations and treatments
-is able to describe the structure and operating principle of equipment used in nuclear medicine
-is able to describe the principles of working safely in Nuclear medicine (osaa kuvailla turvallisen isotooppityöskentelyn periaatteet)
-is able to describe the European Union legislation, national radiation legislation and directives given by authorities related to nuclear medicine
-is able to name the methods by which patients can be examined and treated by using radiopharmaceuticals

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

-is able to explain the basics of physics required for safe medical use of radiation (osaa selittää turvalliseen säteilyn lääketieteelliseen käyttöön vaadittavat fysiikan perusteet)
-is able to explain the most important concepts related to nuclear medicine examinations and treatments
-is able to explain the structure and operating principle of equipment used in nuclear medicine
-is able to explain the principles of working safely in Nuclear medicine (osaa selittää turvallisen isotooppityöskentelyn periaatteet)
-is able to explain the content of the European Union legislation, national radiation legislation and directives given by authorities related to nuclear medicine
-is able to explain the methods by which patients can be examined and treated by using radiopharmaceuticals

-can reasonably (justifying) explain the basics of physics required for safe medical use of radiation (osaa perustellen selittää turvalliseen säteilyn lääketieteelliseen käyttöön vaadittavat fysiikan perusteet
-can reasonably (justifying) explain the most important concepts related to nuclear medicine examinations and treatments
-can reasonably (justifying) explain the structure and operating principle of equipment used in nuclear medicine
-can reasonably (justifying) explain the principles of working safely in Nuclear medicine
-knows the European Union legislation, national radiation legislation and directives given by authorities related to safe medical use of ionizing radiation so good that can explain reasonably (justifying) their contents to the patient, patients’ relatives and other staff, if necessary
-can reasonably (justifying) and extensively explain the methods by which patients can be examined and treated by using radiopharmaceuticals
