Objectives
The student:
-knows the principles and practices of managing forests
- knows the regulations and recommendations concerning forest stand management and knows how to take them into account when managing the forest
-knows how to measure trees and to estimate stand volumes
-knows how to estimate the area of a forest stand on the map and in the field
-knows statistical mean values and can define forest stand mean values
-knows how to estimate the amount of removal of a thinning
-knows how to make forest management suggestions for younger forests
-knows how to take into consideration silvicultural, work safety and nature management aspects when making these plans
- knows how to move in the forest with the help of a map or gps
- knows how to to use brush saw and chain saw in managing stands
-knows how to define and evaluate the quality of young stand management and thinnings
Content
Different alternatives of stand management and their implementation. Use of thinning models. Management of nutrients and forest fertilization. Main regulations concerning forest stand management. Financial subsidy system of young stand management. Recommendations for silviculture and nature management. Measuring of standing trees and stand evaluation.
Orienteering in the forest, using GPS equipment
