Field Course of Silviculture (5cr)

Objectives

The student knows
-how to make forest management suggestions for younger forests as well as how to make forest regeneration plans
-how to take into consideration silvicultural, work safety and nature management aspects when making these plans
- move in the forest with the help of a map or gps
- how to plant and seed forest and how to use brush saw and chain saw in managing stands
-define and evaluate the quality of forest regeneration, young stand management and thinnings

Content

Orienteering in the forest, using GPS equipment, making a forest regeneration plan, planting and seeding forest, planning and realisation of young stand management, defining the timing of thinnings, thinning work with chain saw, evaluating the quality of forest regeneration, young stand management and thinnings
