Objectives
The student:
- is able to identify forest site types and mire types and soil types in practice
- can interpret aerial images visually and also use a map for orienteering in the forest
-knows how the the conditions of forest sites affect the growth of trees and can use this information make silvicultural choices
- knows the native and economically significant exotic tree species grown in Finland and is familiar with their essential ecological requirements.
Content
Intrpretation of aerial images, forming forest compartments, identification of forest site types and mire types, using indicator species, determing soils in the field, the bonitate method, factors affecting tree growth, the ecological requirement of different tree species, orienteering skills.
