Objectives
Students have learned the basic terminology in Afro-American music.
They are able to analyse and write chord harmony according to the style with the use of chord symbols and notes.
They familiarize themselves with the basics of improvisation, the principles of jazz phrasing and mastery of melody lines corforming with the style.
They are familiar with basic tonality and tonality with altered notes and altered chords in jazz. Students become acquainted with jazz phrasing and jazz performance. They also become familiarized with the rhytmics in Afro-American music.

- building chords for simple melodies according to the style
- rhythm inequalisation exercises
- perception and dictations of melody lines comforming to the style
- singing and dictations of melodies based on basic tonality
- singing and dictations of melodies based on of altered notes and chords and jazz scales
- recognizing modal and tonal chord progressions based on four-note chords
- jazz rhythmics and polyrhythmics exercises through reading and dictation
