User-Centered DesignLaajuus (5 cr)

Code: 7Y00GE95

Credits

5 op

Objectives

The course provides the skills to design applications taking into account the users and the context.

After completing the course, the student
- knows the user-centered design process.
- understands the phases of application concept design and can design application user interfaces and good application user experience.
- knows the most important heuristic evaluation methods of applications and knows how to evaluate and develop applications against usability heuristics.

Content

User-centered design process
User experience (UX)
Usability
Heuristics
Prototyping
Design, user testing

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
- can explain how user-centered design is taken into account in the layout design of the site/service.
- can describe typical user experience testing methods and tell in which situations which method should be used.
- knows the design and evaluation principles of user interfaces.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
- knows the design and evaluation principles of user interfaces and knows how to design and knows the principles of heuristic evaluation of applications.
- can produce different prototypes for user experience testing.
- knows how to test design solutions and services with typical testing methods of user experience and advance the development of the plan based on what has been learned from testing.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
- can apply user experience testing methods in different situations and contexts.
- knows how to critically examine her/his own design and is able to modify it according to the context.
