Objectives

In this course, the students will learn how to plan, implement, execute, and measure the success of sustainable growth initiatives within a modern, internationally oriented company. Sustainable growth means growth that is repeatable, ethical and responsible to, and for, current and future communities. Students will be equipped with tools that allow them to calculate a business’ sustainable growth rate considering external factors such as political, economic, and consumer trends. The student has extensive expert knowledge of tools and concepts relevant to building sustainable business models and has an appreciation and drive for working towards a circular economy. The students can characterize major global commitments to sustainable development and explain their influence on business operations.

Content

The course will cover the following aspects:
- Concepts of sustainability and sustainable development in the context of business growth
- Analysis of internal and external factors that have an impact on the sustainability of a business
- Corporate sustainability strategies
- Sustainable revenue opportunities
- Assessment of processes, products, and manufacturing activities to ensure meeting established sustainability standards
- Concepts of circular economy

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student names and explains the core concepts of sustainability and sustainable development in the context of business growth. He/she can conduct a basic analysis of internal and external factors that have an impact on the sustainability of a business. The student gives and receives feedback related to sustainable growth, collaborates with others in sustainable growth activities and takes responsibility for their work.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student is able to apply and compare concepts of sustainability and sustainable development by using different change management literature and explain why and how to use these concepts. The student gives and receives constructive feedback related to sustainability activities, develops collaborative actions for the benefit of sustainable business growth. He/she can take responsibility for their work and collaborative work. The student can apply sustainability activities and define a strategic position, plan and implement credible sustainability initiatives in working life cases, and plan and manage the scope, schedule and resources of sustainability activities

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student analyses systematically the need for sustainability tools and methods, uses additional and recent research to extend knowledge of sustainable development. He/she uses additional and recent research to extend the knowledge of circular economies. The student systematically applies sustainability activities to define strategic positions and choices. He/she justifies the credibility of plans for sustainable growth initiatives in working life cases. The student uses feedback to grow professionally in the field of sustainable development. He/she develops creative and constructive working methods to foster the use of sustainable growth initiatives, individually and collaboratively. The student commits himself/herself both for his/her work and for developing the understanding of others related to sustainable growth in practice and theory.
