Objectives
Nursing 1
The student
- has a basic knowledge of the patient's needs for rest, nutrition, elimination, cleanliness, physical movement and interaction, as well as related nursing assistance techniques and is able to promote health in these areas
- understands the importance of taking into consideration the patient's sexuality in nursing and knows the methods of its intervention
- knows the principles of primary nursing and acting as the patient’s own nurse is able to help and guide people in daily activities in a customer-oriented way
- become trained in face to face patient guidance
- knows the essentials of health-promoting nutrition
- knows the principles of rehabilitative nursing
- knows the principles of ergonomic working in nursing and knows how to apply them in assisting the patient
- takes responsibility for his/her own learning and working in a small group and commits to a goal-oriented problem-solving process within a small group activity
- is able to work according to aseptic principles and works in accordance with general cleanliness and order during training classes
Nursing 2
The student
- knows how to monitor an adult’s body temperature, respiration and circulatory systems, knows the normal values, identify changes and is able to implement nursing care to resolve problems in these systems
- knows the ABCDE- and NEWS -method and how to assess patient’s vital signs based on the ABCDE- and NEWS -method
- knows how to assess a patient’s pain and is aware of various methods of pain management
- takes responsibility for his/her learning and actions during small-group learning activities and commits himself/herself to goal-oriented problem-solving process in small-group education
- become trained in the face to face patient guidance
- works in accordance with general cleanliness and order during training classes
Clinical laboratory investigations and ECG
The student
- knows the most common clinical laboratory investigations
- knows the principles and phases of clinical laboratory investigation process
- knows and understands the effects of preanalytical quality factors on laboratory results
- knows the basics of venepuncture and skin puncture blood sampling and electrocardiography
- practises performing venepuncture and skin puncture sampling and can record a 12-lead ECG under supervision considering quality factors, patient safety and occupational safety
Content
Nursing 1, 4 cr
- aseptic work in a care setting
- basic human needs; rest, movement, nutrition, elimination, cleanliness, and nursing interventions in cleanliness, skin care, physical movement, nutrition and elimination, and health promotion in these areas
- consideration of sexuality in nursing and methods of its intervention
- Finnish nutritional recommendations
- primary nursing and the responsibility and principles of primary nursing
- ergonomic working methods in nursing and assisting a person to move and rest
- rehabilitative working method in patient counselling and assisting the patient
Nursing 2, 3 cr
- monitoring of the circulatory system, measurement and related nursing assistance methods
- monitoring of respiration, measurement and nursing methods of respiratory support
- monitoring of body temperature and nursing actions and methods related to imbalances of thermal regulation
- assessment of a patient’s vital signs based on the ABCDE –method and reporting of patient’s condition (ex ISBAR, NEWS)
- pain types and pain management using non-pharmacological nursing methods
- basics of gas calculations
- verbal guidance between patients and multiprofessional team
- guidance in everyday nursing to the guidance process

The Student
- can define concepts of rehabilitative nursing and ergonomic way of working.
- knows the basics of patient’s needs in the areas of rest, nutrition, excretion, hygiene, moving about and transferring, relationships and sexuality and can name the nursing methods meeting the needs.
- knows the normal variation in the observed parameters.
- knows the national nutrition recommendation’s fundamental principles and concepts.
- recognizes the nutritional guidance needs of an adult patient.
- knows how to recognize the risk of malnutrition.
- can list the principles of hospice care
- participates in the small group's work and goal-oriented problem-solving process with the small group
- know how to work according to aseptic principles
Nursing 2
The student
- knows the basic requirements of human blood circulation, breathing, and heat regulation, and can identify nursing interventions in these areas
- knows the normal values of the different monitoring areas
- knows the types of pain and can identify nursing interventions to help in pain management
- knows the basic principles of face-to-face control situations
- knows how to work according to aseptic principles

Nursing 1
The Student
- knows the basics of patient’s needs in the areas of rest, nutrition, excretion, hygiene, moving about and transferring, relationships and sexuality and can name with rationales the nursing methods meeting the needs and can promote health within the domain.
- can define concepts of rehabilitative nursing and ergonomic way of working and can implement those while assisting a patient.
- knows the national nutrition recommendation’s fundamental principles and concepts.
- recognises the nutritional guidance needs of an adult patient.
- can implement nursing care of a patient with special nutritional needs (malnutrition).
- can list the principles of hospice care
