Objectives

The student:
- understands the connection between the operations and the information systems and the requirements of the organization's operations to the information systems
- Is aware of the general information system development in the forest sector (eg Forest Big Data)
- understands the structure of relational databases and the role of spatial data in the information system
- has the basic capabilities to be able to participate in information systems design and development projects

Content

Structure of information system, databases and development of information systems, role of spatial data in forest information systems, examples of organizations' information systems. An information system application containing spatial data is created as an exercise.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student understands the connection between operations and information systems and understands how the operation of an organization influences the requirements for information systems
He / she is able to create a geographic information system application

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student understands the structure of relational databases and demonstrates it in the information system application.
He/ she is aware of the general development of information systems in the forest sector.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to demonstrate that he / she is able to utilize the general development of information systems in the forest sector. He / she has acquired the skills to efficiently utilize forest information systems and is able to participate in information system design and development projects.
