Objectives

This course explores HVAC systems and practical measurements and reporting of HVAC-related applications. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
• Describe the needs and reasons for conducting key HVAC measurements.
• Evaluate the degree of success of measurement results during the measurement process.
• Report measurement results accordingly.
• Explain the measurement of different HVAC systems as a whole and prepare reports on performance indicators.
• Perform common HVAC measurements while being aware of safety and environmental factors and assess the accuracy of the results obtained.
• Apply various measurement methods to ascertain the characteristics, initial data, and requirements of HVAC systems.
• Assess the possibilities of error in their measurement results and utilize measurement standards.

Content

• The benefits and reasons for measurement. Basic measurements in HVAC technology: including temperature, flow rate, pressure, indoor air quality, fluid and air flows, energy conservation.
• Evaluation of the reliability of measurement results.
• Safety distances.
• Safe work practices in laboratories.
• Utilization of standards and measurement guidelines in systematic measurement.

Prerequisites

Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer in HVAC Systems either as a prerequisite or concurrently

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can conduct common HVAC measurements, evaluate measurement results, and prepare a laboratory report according to guidelines.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student can plan and execute common HVAC measurements as needed, assess measurement results comprehensively, and create an informative and appropriate laboratory report.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student demonstrates mastery in performing HVAC measurements and excellence in understanding their necessity. They are proficient in assessing the reliability of measurements from various perspectives and can draw insightful conclusions about the functionality of the measured object based on the measurements.
