Objectives

In this course, students will familiarize themselves with the use of modeling software used in construction. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
• Describe the needs and benefits of building information modeling
• Use a versatile building services design software for sizing, modeling, and documentation of building services systems
• Create a combined building information model
• Perform energy and environmental modeling.

Prerequisites

Documentation of HVAC Systems or equivalent knowledge

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student identifies the key principles and purposes of building information modeling (BIM) and energy modeling software and can handle simple modeling tasks.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student is able to proficiently utilize building information modeling and energy modeling software to support the development of building services engineering plans.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can proficiently use and apply a variety of building information modeling (BIM) tools and describe their significance and potential for high-quality building services engineering and overall project planning.
