Objectives
Upon completing the course, the student will have mastered the essential foundations of communication and information technology software, enabling them to independently progress in these areas as their studies advance.
The student can:
• Act appropriately in written and oral professional communication and interaction situations
• Consider the recipient, situation, and industry requirements while communicating in a structured, understandable, and convincing manner
• Independently develop their proficiency in Finnish language and communication skills while completing future studies and work tasks in the field
• Prepare written technical documents, reports, and descriptions
• Use basic software necessary for studies and professional life
• Independently enhance their skills in fundamental information technology software while completing future studies and work tasks in the field
Content
Foundations of Expert Communication:
Persuasive written and oral communication; content, structure, and visualization of presentations; feedback, evaluation, teamwork, and negotiation skills.
Drafting documents and work-related texts, language editing, basics of reporting.
Computer Usage:
User interface and resource management, use of common tools and software programs, email, internet, online information retrieval, use of TAMK's information systems, document standards, and TAMK's thesis reporting model.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student communicates understandably and in a business-like manner both in writing and orally, imitating models and instructions. The student uses sources, although their referencing is minimal. Argumentation is modest. The construction of messages is tentative, with notable issues in speech expression and language formality. The report's layout does not fully comply with the instructions. There are numerous errors in citation techniques and source references. Illustration is inadequate.
Computer Usage: The student has achieved sufficient minimum skills to utilize computer software and TAMK's information systems as part of their studies.
