Objectives

This course provides the student with the basics of electrical building services technology, tailored to the technical requirements of a family house. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

• Use industry regulations and guidelines.
• Read key planning documents of electrical building services.
• Design and size a standard family house electrical network, utilizing professional literature in the field.
• Select and place basic electrical systems in a building the size of a small house.
• Independently perform the necessary calculations to support functional and purposeful choices.
• Identify key principles of electrical safety and their impacts on residential building services technology.
• Name suppliers of devices and systems in the field.

• Key regulations and standards related to electrical safety
• Sizing principles for electrical systems and sizing in simple cases
• Basics of electrical installation technology: protection against electric shock, basic structure of the property's network, power determination, cable sizing, selection and placement of electrical devices, installation methods, IP ratings, and schematic symbols

Prerequisites

Introduction to Building Services and Technical Documentation - course or equivalent knowledge.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can list the most common electrical systems in a family house.
Can prepare preliminary sizing calculations for basic electrical network systems under guidance.
The student can read electrical technical documents of a family house.
The student can name and search for suppliers of devices and systems in the field.
The student recognizes industry regulations and guidelines.

The student can describe the operating principles of electrical systems in a residential building.
The student can select solutions based on various criteria and needs, and design and size electrical systems for a standard family house.
The student can use industry guidelines and regulations.

The student can create an energy-efficient and functional system from electrical systems in conjunction with HVAC solutions.
The student can discuss building services solutions as a compatible whole.
They can apply industry guidelines and regulations.
