Objectives

The student is able to use and interpret regulations and instructions in the field of construction and to search for weather information in Finland and utilize it for managing indoor air conditions. The student is able to choose solutions based on different criteria and needs and takes into consideration the laws that influence comfort. The student is able to design and dimension HVAC systems in a conventional residential building and utilize the power grid using professional literature. The student is able to read design documents in the field of building services and name the main basics of electrical safety and their effects on buildings service technology. The student can name equipment and system suppliers in the field.

The energy use and requirements for energy efficiency in a detached house. The common fundamentals of building services engineering. The physical, physiological and psychological factors affecting comfort. The HVAC dimensioning of a detached house, choice of equipment and planning. Installation techniques and equipment.
The central regulations and standards concerning electrical safety. Applying electrical quantities in the electric network of a residential building. Basics of electrical installations, protection from electric shocks, the basic structure of an electric network in a house, determining output capacity, dimensioning wires, choice and placement of electrical equipment, installation methods, IP-classes, graphic symbols. The student is able to list the most common building systems of a single-family house. Is able to prepare preliminary dimensioning calculations for basic systems. The student is able to read the technical documentation of a small house and tell about the factors influencing the comfort and how they can be influenced by the building service systems. The student can name and search for equipment and system suppliers in the field. Students recognize the regulations and instructions in the field.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student is able to describe the principles of building service systems for residential buildings. Students will be able to choose solutions based on different criteria and needs, as well as design and dimension building service systems in a conventional residential building. He / she can use industry guidelines and regulations. The student is able to define the elements of sustainable development of the topic.
