Objectives
The student is familiar with the concepts, goals and problems of traffic planning, as well as the principles of planning a community transport system and the connection between traffic and land use planning.
The student understands the importance of cooperation between different parties and different sector planners for the functioning of the transport system and road safety.
The student is able to make small traffic plans and make simple traffic economy calculations.
The student is also familiar with the impact assessment of traffic planning.
Content
Basics of traffic system planning, traffic planning process, traffic research and measurement methods, preliminary and general planning of traffic routes, formation of action options, consideration of different forms of transportation and activities (pedestrianism, cycling, public transport, parking), traffic safety and traffic calming, evaluation of the effects of traffic projects, evaluation of the costs of infrastructure projects.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The evaluation of the course is based on the exercises to be prepared. In the exercise, groups prepare a traffic system plan for the selected district. The returned exercise meets the minimum requirements of the assignment. The work has shortcomings in terms of reporting language, layout, use of sources, justification of plan solutions, consistency, etc.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The content of the returned exercise corresponds to the assignment: The language of the report is good technical Finnish. Tables, pictures and drawings supplement the report. The presented plan solutions are justified and feasible. However, the work is partly reported narrowly, inconsistently or lacking in reference practice.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The returned exercise report is fully in accordance with the assignment. Its language is flawless, the pictures and drawings are of high quality, the layout is perfect, the structure is logical, and the citation practice is comprehensive and relevant. The report conveys the professional expertise and even innovativeness of the subject area.
