Objectives

The aim of this course is to delve into student health nursing.

Upon completing the course, the student
• is able to plan, implement, and evaluate the monitoring of a student's health, well-being, and study ability in collaboration with the student and, if necessary, their close ones
• is able to guide and support the student in making health-promoting choices, managing life, and maintaining study ability
• is able to address the most common healthcare needs of students
• is able to assess the need for special support and follow-up care for the student in collaboration with the student and, if necessary, a multidisciplinary student welfare team
• is able to sustain and promote the health and well-being of the study environment in collaboration with students, their close ones, and other stakeholders

Content

• Periodic health examinations for students
• Student health counseling at individual and group levels
• Assessment and support of student study ability
• Most common health issues among students
• Early detection, treatment, and referral of students with mental health disorders and substance abuse problems
• Promotion of student sexual and reproductive health
• Student welfare as a part of health nursing
• Multidisciplinary assessment of the health and safety of the study environment
• Promotion of the well-being of the school community

Prerequisites

The student must have completed 135 ECTS credits of nursing studies and participated in the course Nursing Care for Children, Adolescents, and People with Disabilities and The Basics of Public Health Nursing.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
• can conduct monitoring of the student's health, well-being, and study ability in collaboration with the student and, if necessary, their close ones
• can identify the need for promoting the student's health and understands the basics of student guidance
• understands the significance of study ability for the student's well-being
• knows the most common healthcare needs of students
• can identify the need for special support for the student
• recognizes the importance of the study community and environment for the student's well-being

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
• can plan, implement, and evaluate the monitoring of the student's health, well-being, and study ability in collaboration with the student and, if necessary, their close ones
• can use evidence-based information to support student guidance and can justify choices that promote health and life management
• can guide the student in maintaining study ability
• can address the most common healthcare needs of students and refer them to further care if necessary
• can support the student when special needs arise, in collaboration with the student and, if necessary, a multidisciplinary student welfare team
• can promote the health and well-being of the study environment in collaboration with students, their close ones, and other stakeholders

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• can plan, implement, and evaluate individualized monitoring of the student's health, well-being, and study ability in collaboration with the student and, if necessary, their close ones
• masters individualized guidance for the student in choices that promote health and life management
• can support the student in maintaining study ability
• can address the most common healthcare needs of students individually and refer them to further care if necessary
• can guide the student in special needs and demonstrates skills in monitoring and follow-up care for these needs
• can sustain the health and well-being of the study environment in collaboration with students, their close ones, and other stakeholders
