Objectives

The goal of the course is to develop fundamental competence in assessing the need for care and urgency, as well as in comprehensive care for long-term ill patients and guidance for self-care in primary healthcare.

After completing the course, the student
• can assess and document the client's need for care and urgency.
• can apply client-centered methods for health promotion and self-care support, as well as epidemiological and genomic information in reception situations.
• understands the importance of planned care for clients with multiple illnesses and can apply the health benefit model in client care.
• identifies potential health risks and hazards arising from the environment.

Content

• Assessment and documentation of the need for care and urgency in various customer contacts.
• Health promotion utilizing epidemiology and genomic information, as well as support for self-care.
• Chronic care model and planned care for clients with multiple illnesses.
• Environment-related health risks.

Prerequisites

30 ects of first year studies completed, including Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
• Can assess and document the client's need for care and urgency.
• Understands the key principles of health promotion and supporting self-care and recognizes the possibilities of utilizing epidemiology and genomic information in client guidance.
• Can carry out nursing care for clients with multiple illnesses.
• Is aware of environmental health-related risks.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
• Can assess and document the client's need for care and urgency in a client-centered manner.
• Can provide health-promoting guidance and support for client self-care using client-centered methods utilizing epidemiology and genomic information .
• Can plan and implement nursing care for clients with multiple illnesses.
• Understands environmental health-related risks and can apply this knowledge in client guidance.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• Can assess and document the client's need for care and urgency in a client-centered and individualized manner.
• Can provide client-centered health promotion guidance and support for client self-care comprehensively, using various methods, information sources, epidemiology and genomic information.
• Can plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for clients with multiple illnesses.
• Has a broad understanding of environmental health-related risks and can apply this knowledge in a client-centered manner in guidance and care.
