Objectives
The aim of the study module is to develop a basic understanding of the principles, methods, and forms of work that guide the work of a public health nurse.
After completing the study module, the student
• can work according to the values, principles, and ethical guidelines of a public health nurse
• can use and apply a variety of different methods and forms of work in public health nursing and health promotion.
• can identify societal changes and understand the active role of a public health nurse in promoting the health of the population.
• understands the importance of sustainable development and environmental health promotion as part of population health and well-being.
Content
• The history of public health nursing, principles of nursing practice, values, and ethical guidelines.
• Health promotion in public health nursing now and in the future.
• Methods and forms of work in public health nursing at the individual, community, and societal levels.
• Environmental health and perspectives on sustainable development, and solutions in the work of public health nursing
Prerequisites
The student must have completed nursing phase studies 135 ECTS credits.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Student
• understands the key principles, values, and ethical guidelines that guide the work of a public health nurse.
• has a basic understanding of the importance of health promotion in public health nursing
• is familiar with the main methods and forms of work of public health nurses and can partially apply them in practice situations.
• can identify some societal changes and understands the public health nurse's societal role in promoting the health of the population.
• has a basic understanding of the significance of environmental health and sustainable development as part of population health and well-being.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Student
• understands and recognizes the key principles, values, and ethical guidelines that guide the work of a public health nurse and can work in accordance with them.
• understands the significance of health promotion in public health nursing.
• knows the main methods and forms of work of public health nurses and can apply them in practice situations.
• can identify societal changes and understands the public health nurse's active societal role in promoting the health of the population.
• understands the importance of environmental health and sustainable development as part of population health and well-being.
