The student
- is able to prepare the patient for anaesthesia and surgery
- is able to prepare the care environment for anaesthesia and surgery
- is able to monitor the vital signs of an anaesthetised patient during the surgical operation
- is able to apply the principles of aseptics and promote patient safety in perioperative nursing
- is trained in patient encounters and interaction in a perioperative care environment

Content

- major factors observed in patient anaesthesia
- ventilation and assisting with intubation and alternative airway management techniques
- aseptic actions in the operating room
- preparing the patient for the operation in the operating room
- basic instruments and other equipment used in surgery

Prerequisites

First year studies 50 ects completed, including the course on Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.
Participation in courses on Perioperative Nursing and Intravenous Fluid Therapy and Blood Transfusion.
