Objectives

This course focuses on the oral use of the Swedish language in social work tasks.

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Communicate orally in Swedish using key terms and phrases relevant to social work
• Understand and utilize professional articles in Swedish-language publications within their field
• Engage in discussions with clients about essential matters related to their situation
• Communicate effectively in various professional communication situations
• Attain the required oral proficiency in the second official language for their field, as mandated by higher education legislation

• Authentic texts related to the student’s professional field.
• Practice in typical communication situations encountered in social work.
• Social worker tasks and client groups.
• Describing education and work experience

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Student

• has a basic grasp of social work vocabulary
• can communicate reasonably clearly in simple, routine interaction situations
• can briefly and understandably describe their education and internship experiences
• uses basic grammar structures
• understands the main points of texts related to their work tasks using a dictionary
• has made progress during the course, considering their own starting point

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Student

• can use essential social work terminology and concepts
• communicates clearly in key interaction situations
• can express their education, internship, and skills clearly
• mostly uses correct grammatical structures
• understands the main points of texts related to their work tasks without assistance
• can rephrase information if necessary
• works independently and actively to enhance their specialized language skills

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student

• proficiently and precisely uses even demanding social work vocabulary and concepts
• communicates adeptly even in challenging interaction situations
• can fluently and comprehensively discuss their education, internship, work experience, and expertise

• can effectively explain concepts in alternative terms
• works autonomously and proactively to enhance their specialized language proficiency
• can utilize even complex social work articles and other industry publications for professional development
