Objectives

The student
- is able to gather equipment needed for the patient’s care and check their operation and safety for use
- is able to get ready for care and receive the surgical patient for an operation
- is able to set the patient in the operation position
- knows the methods used for disinfecting the patient's skin and mucous membranes
- is able to act as both an instrumental and a circulating nurse at the beginning of surgery, during the operation itself and at its end
- is able to take care of the different samples taken from the patient
- is able to implement the principles of aseptic activities in the intraoperative phase of patient care
- is able to use methods of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilisation in his/her actions
- is able to maintain the continuity of care with both oral reports and using manual and electronic documentation
- is able to work as part of an operative team, recognising his/her own responsibility
- is able to work to promote patient health and maintain patient safety
- is able to choose economically sustainable methods in his/her work
- is able to assess the development of his/her own professionalism during the supervised clinical training and is able to identify in him/herself the need for continuous development

Supervised clinical training, as instrument and circulating nurse in a patient’s intraoperative care as part of the operative team

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass
The student
- works safely as part of the surgical team
- works in the roles of the instrumental and circulating nurse under the supervision of the surgical team
- evaluates his/her own activities and the development of his/her professionalism in relation to the requirements for surgical care
- sees in him/herself the need for continuous development and is responsible for his/her own activities.

Fail
The student
- is unable to plan and get ready for the operation
- does not collaborate with the surgical team adequately and endangers patient safety
- is not able to act as an instrumental or circulating nurse during the surgical operation despite the supervision
- is not able to receive feedback or is not able to utilise the feedback
- is unable to reflect on his/her own activities and the goal-oriented self-development is inadequate
- has shortcomings in work shift planning and its implementation
- does not respect the spirit of health legislation
