Objectives
The course provides the skills for assessing and treating a patient's care needs.
After completing the course, the student
• Assess and care for patients of different ages in various situations following the ABCDE protocol.
• Inform patients about their condition using the ISBAR method. Inform about patient’s condition using the ISBAR method.
• Act in emergencies with consideration for patients of different ages, taking into account their loved ones.
• Function as a member of a healthcare team, lead activities, and make care-related decisions.
• Understand cause-and-effect relationships resulting from changes in a patient's condition.
• Guide clients and their loved ones in a resource-oriented manner regarding healthcare and health-related matters.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail
Fail: The student
• Acts in emergency situations so that endangers the patient's life.
• Does not recognize life-threatening situations occurring in the patient's condition.
• Cannot provide holistic patient care or engage in discussions with the patients and their loved ones regarding treatment-related matters.
• Behaves inappropriately in the situation.
• Cannot provide information about the patient's condition.
• Cannot act consistently.
• Is unable to reflect.
Pass: The student
• Can act in emergency situations.
• Identifies and can assess the patient's resources and factors threatening health.
• Can provide holistic patient care.
• Can discuss healthcare and well-being-related matters with the patients and their loved ones.
• Can discern key aspects of the patient's current situation.
