Objectives
The student deepens their expertise in child and family nursing in children's and youth care units.
After completing the course, the student
• Act according to the ethical principles related to their profession in child and family nursing.
• Apply theoretical knowledge and operate in different phases of the nursing process for children and families as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Safely carry out medication and fluid therapy for children.
• Act responsibly in the professional development of their own competence in child and family nursing.
Content
Orientation to supervised clinical training and practical training in child and family nursing.
Prerequisites
At the beginning of the Optional Professional Studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include theoretical studies of the area which the student has chosen for the Optional Professional Studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology and minimum six supervised clinical training courses.
Participation in the course Nursing Care of Acutely Ill and Intensive Care-requiring Children and Their Families.
Assessment criteria, pass/fail
The student:
• Can operate according to the ethical principles related to their profession in child and family nursing.
• Acts responsibly as a team member, following the guidelines of the practice.
• Uses theoretical knowledge in different phases of the nursing process for children and families and actively works as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Knows and can safely carry out medication and fluid therapy for children.
• Is actively involved in the theoretical development of their knowledge and actions in child and family nursing.
Fail:
The student:
• Does not operate according to the ethical principles and guidelines related to their profession.
• Does not follow practice guidelines or acts dishonestly (e.g., missing goals or shifts, not adhering to work hours, not reporting absences as agreed).
• Cannot use theoretical knowledge in different phases of the nursing process for children and families.
• Cannot safely carry out medication and fluid therapy for children.
• Does not recognize their own competence or its limits.
• Is passive in the theoretical development of their knowledge and actions in child and family nursing.
• Endangers patient safety through their actions.
