Objectives

The student
- understands the importance of professional interaction and is able to meet with clients and significant others professionally and with dignity
- is able to identify and assess the need for care of patients suffering various health problems, taking into consideration their significant others, by utilising digital tools
- knows about the different diseases of the clients and the symptoms they cause, and understands the illness as an experienced cultural and social phenomenon
- is able to plan, implement, and assess nursing care based on a patient’s care needs in various care situations, utilising evidence-based knowledge
- is able to utilise technology in a patient's holistic nursing
- is familiar with the care and service chains and digital services of patients / clients who suffer from the most common diseases of the population and is able to guide the client in the use of services
- is able to meet, provide information, guide and teach an individual and family in the care of illness and health promotion, utilising well-being and health technology
- is able to assess and reflect ethically and realistically his/her own level of professional competence and his/her activities in the work community

Content

- nursing care of the most common sudden and long-term illnesses at reception, on a hospital ward and in the home of the client
- the most common sudden and long-term illnesses of the population, their symptoms and medication for their care
- identifying, assessing and nursing mental health and substance abuse in primary health care

Prerequisites

At the beginning of alternative vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits of studies. These should include theoretical studies and the studies of orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for alternative vocational studies, as well as studies in anatomy and physiology. The required areas are medical nursing, surgical nursing, mental health and substance abuse care, gerontological nursing and nursing in an outpatient clinic.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
- is able to meet different clients with dignity and individuality and is able to assess his/ her interaction skills
- knows the basics of identifying the need for care of conventional diseases of the population, as well as planning, implementing and assessment of the care
- identifies key technologies and digital methods for assessing, planning, implementing and assessing client care
- knows the care and service chains as an aid in planning the actions and uses them for the benefit of the client
- is able to guide his / her own actions as supervised

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
- has mastered client-oriented methods in interaction with the client and his/ her significant other in a culturally sensitive way
- can apply his/her learning to common illnesses of the population, for presenting and identifying the need for care, as well as planning, implementing and assessing care utilising evidence-based knowledge
- is able to take into account the effects of the illness on the family and is able to plan care and related guidance in a client-oriented manner using different procedures and contact methods
- is able to plan care and guide the patient in relation to care and service chains using technology and digital services
- reflects on his/her own activities and identifies the developmental challenges; knows how to assess peers and give constructive feedback
