Objectives

In this course, you will get relevant information for radiographers about radiation therapy equipment, radiation protection related to the radiation therapy process, and radiation therapy planning.

After completing the course, the student:
• knows the operation principles and structure of the equipment and auxiliary equipment used in radiotherapy
• masters the legislation and regulations governing radiotherapy
• knows the principles of planning the radiotherapy
• can read treatment plans and report the given treatment in the treatment card
• as a learning exercise, can make a treatment plan for radiotherapy
• can operate the radiotherapy equipment with auxiliary equipment correctly and safely in training situations under guidance

• EU-recommendations and national legislation and regulations in radiotherapy

• can describe the EU and national legislation and regulations governing radiotherapy
• can name basic concepts related to radiotherapy
• can name the phases of the planning of radiotherapy
• can name the phases of the dose planning
• can document the radiotherapy in the treatment card
• can make a treatment plan for radiotherapy acceptably as a learning exercise
• can operate radiotherapy equipment safely in training situations

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

• can explain the operating principles of radiotherapy devices
• can explain the principles of radiation protection in radiotherapy
• can explain the contents of the EU and national legislation and regulations governing radiotherapy
• can explain the basic concepts related to radiotherapy
• can explain the phases of the planning of radiotherapy
• can explain the phases of the dose planning
• can read the treatment plan and document the radiotherapy in the treatment card
• can make a treatment plan for radiotherapy acceptably as a learning exercise

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

• can reasonably explain the operating principles of radiotherapy devices
• can reasonably explain the principles of radiation protection in radiotherapy
• knows the contents of the EU and national legislation and regulations governing radiotherapy so that he/she can reasonably explain their contents to patients, their family members and other staff if necessary
• can reasonably explain the phases of the planning of radiotherapy
• can reasonably explain the phases of the dose planning
• can read different treatment plans and document the radiotherapy in the treatment card
• can make a treatment plan for radiotherapy acceptably as a learning exercise and justify his/her decisions
