Objectives

The core objective of the course is that the student understands the significance of Swedish skills, interaction and written communication as part of their professional skills and
recognizes their own role as a communicator in patient situations in the field of Health Care and Radiography.

After completion of the course the student:
• can instruct different types of clients on the most important radiography procedures in written Swedish
• can communicate orally in Swedish in duties typical for a radiographer
• can use Swedish articles and texts on radiography
• can further develop the language skills in their field using various learning methods and tools
• acquire the written language skills in the second domestic language which is necessary in their professional field, as required by national legislation (Public Administration Language Examination, CERF level B1 = Sufficient competences -> grades 1-3, B2 = Good competences -> grades 4-5.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: Upper Secondary School studies or equivalent skills, CERF level B1.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
• can write about their education and practical training briefly in mostly understandable terms.
• uses basic radiography vocabulary passably.
• uses simple, basic grammar structures.
• can report briefly on the patient’s condition using notes and support words
• can communicate in an understandable manner in simple, routing interaction situations.
• Using a dictionary, the student understands the main points of easy-to-read professional publications of their field.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student
• can write about their education and practical training clearly.
• uses the most important vocabulary and concepts of radiography.
• uses grammar structures mostly correctly.
• can report a client’s condition in clear and understandable manner.
• communicates clearly enough in situations typical to the work community.
• understands the main points and most of the details of a radiography text without using aids.
• can search for and use the most important professional publications of their field.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• can write about their education and practical training fluently and with details.
• uses the vocabulary and concepts of radiography fluently.
• uses grammar structures fluently.
• can report a client’s condition fluently.
• communicates skilfully even in demanding communication situations.
• understands both the main points and the details of a radiography text
• can search for, use, and apply fairly demanding professional publications in their work

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Failed
• failed written exam
• content goals not met: severe mistakes in structure, using language correctly, using radiography terminology and getting their message understood.
