Objectives

The main goal of the course is for the student to understand the role of nuclear medicine examinations and treatments in the patient's holistic treatment path. During the course, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the details related to performing nuclear medicine examinations and treatments.

After completing the course, the student:
• knows the basics of radioactivity used in professional studies
• knows the structure and operating principles of equipment used in nuclear medicine procedures
• knows the principles of working safely in nuclear medicine procedures
• knows how the methods of nuclear medicine are utilized in the diagnosis, evaluation and follow up
• knows the EU-recommedations, national radiation legislation and directives given by authorities related to safe medical use of ionizing radiation related to Nuclear Medicine
• knows the principles of the most important clinical fysiology examinations related to radiographers work
• knows the principles of bone density measurements
• is able to prepare radiopharmaceuticals
• masters the calculation of activities related to prepare and administer of radiopharmaceuticals
• knows the basics of the Hot Laboratory (Clean Room) working

• principles of most important clinical physiology examinations related to radiographers' work
• radiation protection and radiation safety in nuclear medicine procedures
• the EU-recommendations, national radiation legislation and directives given by authorities related to safe medical use of ionizing
radiation
• radiopharmacy and use of the radiopharmaceuticals
• working in the hot laboratory (clean room)

Prerequisites

• adequate knowledge in radiation physics and radiation safety
• adequate knowledge in human anatomy and physiology

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

• can identify and name the basics of physics required for safe medical use of radiation
• can identify and name the most important concepts related to nuclear medicine examinations and treatments
• can describe the structure and operating principle of equipment used in nuclear medicine
• can describe the principles of working safely in Nuclear medicine
• can name the methods by which patients can be examined and treated by using radiopharmaceuticals
• can describe the EU-recommendations, national radiation legislation and directives given by authorities related to nuclear medicine
• can describe the principles of bone density measurements and the most important clinical physiology examinations related to nuclear medicine procedures
• can calculate the activities related to prepare and administer of radiopharmaceuticals
• can prepare radiopharmaceuticals in the learning environment
• can work safely in the learning environment
• can describe the principles of hot laboratory (clean room) work

ionizing radiation so good that can explain and justify their contents to the patient, patients’ relatives and other staff, if necessary
